We all know that properly treated lenses will block Ultra-Violet rays from entering the front of the lens, but what about from behind the lens? Now our AR Coatings offer comprehensive UV protection from bounce back UV.
One of the biggest concerns for people today is protecting themselves from the sun’s UV rays. While many patients are aware of the risks of sunburn and skin cancer, they may not know that these rays have also been shown to cause harm to their eyes.
For eyewear patients, UV rays can be transmitted through the front of the lenses to the eyes, or reflected to the eyes from the back of lenses. Over time, exposure to these rays can cause damage to your eyes and eyesight, and has, in fact, been linked to several eye health conditions.
Consider these findings:
79% of patients know they need sun protection for their skin, but only 6% know they need sun protection for their eyes(2)
In the United States, more than 22 million people have at least one cataract(3)
90% of skin cancer occurs above the neck (face, neck, and around the eyes), with 5–10% occurring on the eyelids(4)
90% of the visible signs of premature aging is from UV damage(5)
Eyes are the only internal tissue directly exposed to UV rays
